Nail-Down and Glue-Down Installation

Nail-down installation is the traditional method for solid hardwood over a wood subfloor, and it is what most Johns Creek homes take on the main and upper levels. Each board is fastened down, giving a floor that feels solid underfoot and can be sanded and refinished several times.

Finished basements are a different matter. Below grade the floor sits on concrete, so engineered plank is glued down instead. It copes with slab moisture far better than solid wood, and a thick wear layer means it can still be sanded years later.

Sand and Finish Refinishing

Plenty of Johns Creek homes are now twenty or more years old, and their original floors have taken a lot of traffic through the hallways and around the kitchen. The boards are usually sound, and a full sand and finish brings them back.

Acclimation

Wood moves with the humidity in your home, and a large order needs the whole quantity settled, not just the first few boxes. Once the store delivers your flooring it should sit in the rooms where it will be laid for a few days before we fasten anything down.

Tear-Out & Subfloor Preparation

We lift the old floor, then check the subfloor across the whole area for movement, squeaks and level. Over a large span, a dip that would pass in one room shows up badly once the boards run through several. Barriers go up so the parts of the house still in use stay clean.

Installation

We lay the boards to a plan so the run continues cleanly from room to room and the joints are staggered properly. Stair treads and nosings are cut to match the floor, and if the floor is being finished on site we sand, stain and coat it once everything is down.

Clean-Up

We refit the baseboards and thresholds, vacuum through every room we worked in, and take all the waste away with us, leaving the house ready to live in.
